A Walk in Avalon

About a week ago I took a trip to Avalon Park in Stony Brook, New York. There is acres worth of untouched land and woods that make for a great hike or jog. I went as a group to take a hike with a teacher, who is on the board of directors at the park. Along the way there were many sites that I could not pass on the opportunity to photograph.

This pond is what you first see heading up the road toward the preserve. It's right across the Stony Brook Grist Mill (the wood building you see). Inside they sell bird feed, where you can give it to the ducks and other birds, however people often bring their own food, which is not good for the animals here.

This is a field you're first greeted with after entering the main part of the preserve. Throughout the year this field sees many changes. During the winter it looks like this, however when Spring comes the first wildflowers grow up to a few feet, which are replaced by a different type of flower in the summer, and another in the fall, before dying and restarting its cycle in the winter.

The rest of the pictures are seen throughout the trail (click to enlarge).
